Diets Don’t Work If You Are Stressed

Anxiety and Weight

I tried dieting last week, mostly by cutting out sweets and eating healthy stuff like vegetables, but all I did was gain weight!

I think my weight gain lately has been due to stress, and when you are stressing out, diets won’t work. I think there must be stress hormones that course through your body when you are tense, that make you gain weight.

So I think any weight loss plan has to start with stress reduction. I bought a couple of books on reducing anxiety, and hope that they will help me. I think meditation would be good too.

I don’t mean to say that diets NEVER work, just that they don’t work when you are full of anxiety and stress.

I can’t tell you how discouraging it was to step on the scale and see that I was heavier than ever before. My clothes hardly fit any more either. Talk about stressing out! Now I’m stressed because I don’t want to buy a new wardrobe.

So I gave up on the diet for now, and I’m concentrating on being good to myself, getting plenty of sleep, etc. I think this will help more than the dieting. When things calm down, maybe I can work on eating better again.

What do you think? Has this happened to you?
